SMK Signs Business Agreement with Talos
for Secondary Battery Manufacturing Technology
SMK CO.,LTD announced on September 19 that it has signed a business agreement with Talos, a leading small enterprise in the defense and civilian sectors of the secondary battery industry, to develop batteries that can operate even in extreme environments using new secondary battery manufacturing technology.
The business agreement ceremony took place in the conference room of Talos in Dongan-gu, Anyang City, Gyeonggi Province. At the event, Talos representative Jae-ho Cha, SMK representative Do-hyung Kim, and executives from both companies participated and discussed creating the best business model by focusing on the capabilities of small businesses with niche strategies that large companies cannot perform.
Founded in 2005, Talos, who signed the business agreement, is a professional company developing and producing lithium-ion secondary batteries and chargers needed for national defense industries, national
long-term projects, and space aviation industries, such as Hanwha Systems and LIG Nex1, recognized in the defense industry.
Meanwhile, SMK, which also signed the agreement, is a professional company that operates and manages environmentally friendly means of transport, developing a composite charging facility where various
products of personal mobility, secondary battery packs, and other mobilities can be charged in one place. As a subsidiary of LUL Korea, which is securing the country's largest mobility production plant, it is
attracting more attention overseas through its partnership with foreign global companies.
A representative of SMK stated, “This agreement is deeply related to the development of secondary batteries for defense purposes and military weapon systems. Most importantly, the non-disclosure agreement (NDA) is crucial, and the detailed contents were conducted on the principle of non-disclosure.”
The brief content of the business agreed upon by the two companies includes the development of ultra-lightweight secondary batteries mounted on UAM and the development and mass production of batteries
that can withstand up to minus 50 degrees by 2024. They have also agreed to participate in the U.S. federal public procurement and UN public procurement markets based on core defense technologies and
experiences, not only domestic promotions.
Kim Do-hyung, CEO of SMK, said, "The collaboration between the two companies in development and production will create enormous synergy as a Korean company in not only the mobility market but also the global defense market."
He further added, “We expect an additional sales of more than 30 billion KRW and predict a high operating profit rate of more than 30%. The current hottest issue is the collaboration of two markets, the meeting
of a defense specialist company and a mobility specialist company. We are looking forward to the successful case of mutual cooperation between small businesses with strong technology in the defense and civil
sectors."
