Initiates Construction of Battery Pack Smart Factory: Emphasis on Automation and Eco-friendliness

SMK CO.,LTD's affiliate company, BEEMOBILITY CO.,LTD, is set to establish the 'Gunsan Battery Pack Smart Factory' as part of its aggressive push into the green energy sector. This state-of-the-art factory, which will house South Korea's first fully automated battery production equipment, aims to produce over 80,000 two-wheeled vehicle drive-type battery packs annually and will collaborate with local governments and universities.

The groundbreaking ceremony took place on the morning of the 24th. The smart factory, to be built in Impi-myeon, Gunsan City, Jeollabuk-do, spans an area of 5,400㎡. Its proximity to the nearby Saemangeum secondary battery specialized zone provides a strategic advantage for the battery and electric vehicle industry.

BEEMOBILITY CO.,LTD plans to produce 'Drive-type Battery Packs for Electric Two-wheelers' and 'Replaceable Battery Chargers' in the Gunsan Smart Factory, utilizing Samsung SDI's lithium-ion batteries. The drive-type battery pack has a production capacity of 80,000 units annually, while the replaceable battery charger, which requires manual work, can produce up to 5,000 units. The company also intends to introduce the country's first automated battery pack production equipment, which will handle everything from battery cell balancing to product loading and transportation using the latest robotic equipment.

Building on this foundation, the company plans to expand its product range to include battery packs for agricultural tractors and other specialized equipment. Furthermore, based on an MOU signed with the National Gunsan University in 2022, they will launch the 'Local Innovation based on Local Government-University Collaboration for Eco-friendly Charging Infrastructure and Electric Bicycles' (RIS) project. This project aims to establish an eco-friendly charging infrastructure combined with solar power generation. Scheduled to run for five years from 2023 to 2028, the project has an annual budget of  USD 33M, with a total project size reaching USD 164M.

Both SMK CO.,LTD and BEEMOBILITY CO.,LTD are focusing on battery pack manufacturing and e-mobility charging facility development as their primary businesses. By integrating solar power, AI, and blockchain technologies, they are pushing forward with ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) initiatives in the eco-friendly energy sector, including the development of 'zero-carbon emission charging stations'. They are also working on projects to supply drive-type battery packs for electric two-wheelers and local solar charging stations in Bangladesh and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
