Collaborates with Walton Group
Eco-friendly energy solution specialist
SMK, led by CEO Kim Yoon-jae, is set to tap into the local market in
collaboration with the Walton Group, often referred to as the 'Samsung
Electronics of the Bangladeshi home appliance industry'. On the 4th, both parties
signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the Walton Group's headquarters
in Dhaka, Bangladesh, for the 'installation of secondary battery manufacturing
lines and the transfer of manufacturing technology'. Accordingly, SMK plans to
establish a secondary battery manufacturing line in Bangladesh and disseminate
Korean battery manufacturing technology in the local market.
Established in 1977, the Walton Group
manufactures a variety of products ranging from home appliances like washing
machines and smart TVs to IT products like desktops and smartphones. They
operate over 1,100 sales outlets locally and export to over 40 countries
worldwide. The conglomerate encompasses numerous subsidiaries in two main
sectors, Walton Hi-Tech and Walton Digi-Tech. The collaboration with SMK is
spearheaded by 'Walton Digi-Tech', chaired by S M Rezaul Alam.
The two companies have agreed not only on
the installation of secondary battery manufacturing lines and the transfer of
manufacturing technology but also to expand collaboration into the Battery Swap
System (BSS) sector. They plan to produce exterior cases using mold and rolling
technology, and to actively utilize Walton's SMT (Surface Mount Technology). As
part of this collaboration, Walton Group will dispatch its engineers to SMK to
provide technical training. A representative from SMK stated, "We will
actively target the lithium-ion battery market, which has the most significant
impact on the performance improvement of electric two-wheelers," adding, "Through
this, we aim to lead the electric two-wheeler market in Bangladesh."
